# Avoid spokes breaking

**1. Keep spokes evenly tensioned**

Loose spokes will move slightly with every pedal stroke. If the movement occurs between the steel hub flange and the spoke elbow, the moving spokes will fatigue or wear out.

**2. Avoid overloading**

Overloading increases the pressure on the spokes, and constant pressure while riding can cause them to break.

**3. Maintain proper tire pressure**

Tire pressure set too low will result in more tread contact with the ground, and the impact on obstacles will put pressure on the spokes, resulting in wear and tear.

**4. Use decent spokes**

Poor quality spokes are less able to withstand pressure and can easily break.
