National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) Expands E-Bike Database Program

The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting independent bicycle retailers, has announced plans to expand its e-bike database program. The expanded database will provide information on certified and insured e-bike resources across the United States. This resource aims to serve as a reference for retailers, consumers, e-bike incentive programs, and other relevant stakeholders, helping to foster a thriving e-bike industry.

The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) launched the E-Bike Database program last year, which has received positive feedback. The publicly accessible database currently features 21 brands, and the NBDA encourages more e-bike brands and manufacturers to join in order to expand the resource and promote safety compliance within the industry.

The database collects information such as contact details, product certifications (e.g., UL 2849, UL 2271, UL 2272, EN15194), CPSC certifications, and product liability insurance. All submitted information is reviewed and added to the database.

If the National Bicycle Dealers Association’s (NBDA) database of verified e-bike models is recognized by the industry, it could help reduce the circulation of illegal and potentially unsafe e-bikes. Consumers would be able to access a list of approved, safe e-bike brands through this database, allowing them to make more informed purchasing decisions. This, in turn, could lead to a decrease in the number of fires and other hazardous incidents associated with the use of illegal or substandard e-bikes.
