New rules:
- Valid Driver’s License: E-bike operators must have a valid driver’s license.
- Permit Requirement: Operators must obtain and display a permit issued by the city.
- Helmet Requirement: Operators under the age of 21 are required to wear a helmet.
- Safety Equipment: E-bikes must have working safety features, including:
- Reflectors
- Lights
- Braking systems
- Class 3 e-bikes must also have speedometers.
- Compliance with Laws: Operators must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Speed Limit: E-bikes are prohibited from operating at speeds greater than 30 miles per hour.
- Modification Restrictions: E-bikes cannot be modified in ways that make them non-compliant with Texas Transportation Code specifications.
- Inspection Process: During the permit application process, city public safety employees will inspect the e-bikes for compliance with these regulations.
